"So I am awake at this unholy hour thanks to the Alley Cat's continuing car woes.
I ended up driving up here after work because it was too icky to drive to Boston to visit an ill DocElf. Plus it is actualy a shorter drive to where I'm scheduled for work tomorrow (today? bleck.) than from the cottage.
Anyway, she gets up way early a couple mornings a week to bake the morning pastries for the coffee shop she works for. So as usual, she got up and headed out and I went back to sleep for a couple more hours.
Or that was the plan. Her car lost a hubcap about two blocks away and after she pulled over to try (and fail) to find it the car wouldn't start. She walked back to her apartment and woke me up, we went out and looked at her car and couldn't figure out he problem[1], so since she'd be back by when I have to leave for work I gave her The Cat and walked back to the apartment. Now I just shut off the radiator, since the room was like a sauna, and am going to try and go back to sleep shortly."

[1]when you turn the key, the dash lights go out like they would when it is starting, but nothing actually happens. it is not a dead battery because the headlights don't dim when the key is turned, indicating the starter is not drawing power. My theories are a)bad connection to starter soleniod, b)bad starter relay or c)(and this occured to me on the walk back) the netural safety switch in the transmission is bad/msaligned/etc. making the car think it's in gear.
