Housing search
Dec. 14th, 2005 10:30 am"Fey and I looked at a place Monday evening. Its in a different (but still nice) area of Hartford. 2nd floor, 2.5 bedrooms[1], 1 bath, LR (w/working fireplace), DR, pantry, 3-season porch, private entrance. It has hardwood throughout, and most of the original oak moulding is intact and not painted. New kitchen & bath. Overall not as *impressive* or large as our current place, but also very nice and everything seems to be in much better condition (and lacking in vermin). Our only neighbors would be the 98 yr old woman downstairs. We get the whole attic and 1/2 the basement for storage. The entire driveway is ours (3 cars easily, at least 10+ if we cram them in), as well as 1 garage bay now, and another once the landlord sells the car stored in the other bay. New windows throughout, new furnace (with radiators! Joy!), new appliances, hookups for our W/D in the apartment and everything of very high quality. Our rent would go up about $45/month over what it is now, but that would be vastly offset by the (almost certainly) cheaper heat, better parking, garage and distinct lack of vermin or pieces falling off the building.
We finished the application yesterday and should be getting it back to the landlord today. The hope is to give our notice here as soon as possible, and spend the last 1/2 of Dec & 1st 1/2 of Jan moving at our leisure instead of trying to do it in one frantic day. Standard begs/bribes for packing/moving help apply.
Oh, and just to make my NYC & Boston friends sick. The rent for the entire apartment is $995/month + utilities.
[1]one is very small and has no closet, but should suffice for office/guest room purposes, though we'll prolly need to build another custom desk.
