Driving in the snow
Mar. 2nd, 2006 01:19 pm"Went out on lunch to get Roo's emissions test done. It has been lightly snowing for a couple hours sothere was maybe and inch or two of snow on the ground.
Guy I felt sorry for: The stretch of highway near my office has a single tree every 1/4 mile or so in an otherwise competely empty grass median. This guy had skidded off the road at nearly 90deg to traffic flow and hit a tree head on dead center in the middle of his truck. Hit it hard enough to knock th 6-8' tree over too. If he'd been 5' either way he'd have missed and just stopped int he grass. Talk about bad luck.
Guy I wanted to beat to death with a shovel: The guy on Farmington ave (a main road) who decided that because it was snowing lightly, the roads HAD been sanded and didn't yet have enough snow to be able to be plowed that it was much too dangerous to drive faster than ELEVEN MILES PER HOUR. I kid you not, we (meaning me and a long line of cars) spent 15min plodding along behind him. Oh and he slowed down for the corners too. I was extra bonus smity because the speed he chose was right between 1st & 2nd gear so I kept shifting every time there was a slight variation in speed.
On the plus side, Roo passed the emissions with flying colors, so after work I go transfer the permanent plates over."
