Ah, the joy of the yearly Arisia con angst. This happens every year[1], and I am used to it enough at this point that I just sorta ride it out and try to ignore it for the most part.
But every year a week or two before Arisia I realize that the con is coming up Really soon Now(tm). And I feel like I should have some sort of spiffy hall costume[2], or other interesting outfit/prop/accessory/etc. And of course two weeks is not enough time to do it properly, so I have to decide between quick and crappy, or blowing it off. I used to make a vain attempt, get frustrated because there was no way it would work right in time, then give up.
Then as the con looms nearer, phase two of con angst kicks in. I start worrying about what I'm going to *do* while I'm there. What if I don't find ppl to hang out with, or if they are too busy with their con plans. What if there aren't any panels I want to go to, or games I want to play, or... You get the idea.
Course, then I remind myself that I never was one for costumes, and if I wear a clean shirt and bath beforehand I'm one up on a measurable percentage of the con. And I know a lot of people who will be there, and hell, most times I can't walk through the con on Friday night without being greeted by people who know me every few feet. So I deal with the con angst in the run-up, then just forget it once I arrive and go have some fun.
Course this doesn't keep me from pondering repainting my other two Nerf guns before Friday...
