More buggin'
May. 29th, 2007 11:49 pmOk more info on my new toy.
The bug is a 1967 Beetle, factory red (but now and unpleasantly faded brick-red). It has a later dual-port 1600 motor (read stronger with more power). And even cooler I just discovered today that it is apparently a euro-spec model, never intended for sale in the US. This means it's rarer and more valuable than I thought, and has some nifty features it might not otherwise have had (like front disc brakes). It's also have some upgrades done to it that are stuff I'd have wanted to do myself (pop-out rear windows, adjustable beam front suspension (means I can lower the car for better looks & handling).
It runs really strong, and aside from a bad generator (which I fixed tonight) is in good mechanical condition. It has way less rust than other new-england bugs I looked at, and the body is overall in nice shape. The interior needs major attention as it is really ugly and badly done, but I can do that in bits as I have the time. I have a list of things that needs doing in the very near future, but all of them a pretty minor. I am happy, and feel I got a good deal for the money.
Tomorrow I get temp plates, and possibly Thursday I get the VIN check done and get it properly registered. With a tiny bit of luck I'll be able to take it up to Boston this weekend.
