So once I sell The Subaru (and hopefully the Bug) I need to buy another daily driver.
I am looking for something reliable and fuel-efficient. I'd like something I can just drive without thinking about. And spend my time/money/energy on working on
Emily, or possibly turning the new car into an artcar.
And yet, I am finding myself inexorably drawn to old Mercedes Diesel wagons. Like
this one, or
this one.
The last thing I need is a 20+ year old 1.5 ton tank of a car with a 0-60 time measurable on a calendar. And even though those things are damn near indestructible, if something should destruct I get to look forward to Mercedes level parts costs[1].
But damned if the idea of a big German Panzer of a car doesn't appeal to me.
I fear taking a test drive of one. I know it would be an all or nothing deal. Either I'd flee in terror and never go near one again, or (more likely) I would be utterly stupidly smitten and end up pouring my heart (and wallet) into one.
{1} I checked, most things aren't so bad, and are fairly in-line with my other cars. But certain things, like $140 brake calipers could get painful fast.
