Days off, stuff done and miles driven
Jun. 5th, 2008 10:27 pmI took today off work to get a few "during the day" errands accomplished.
This was supposed to start with getting Emily over to the exhaust shop to have new exhaust tips installed. When I went out to the garage though I found her left rear tire flat. Fortunately I had a spare of the same size so it was 5 minutes work to swap it over.
Then I drove her over and waited about two hours for them to squeeze her into their bust schedule and do the tips. During that time I got a lot of reading done (I don't understand how other people can sit and wait without a book). After that I stopped at Mustangs Unlimited in my ongoing search for two more 14" wheels for her, they were sadly unhelpful. Then I stopped at the Time Machine hobby shop and someone managed to get out of there without buying piles of pretty copper & brass stock for theoretical projects.
After dropping Emily at home I picked up Box and went over to Avery's Soda to return empties and buy yet more soda.
From there I headed out to Ulster Park NY to pick up a set of tires & rims for Box. These are the stock tires & steel rims, and they had about 5K miles on the and were selling for $160 (a set of new tires alone go for $300+). I decided to go the back roads way and trucked out mostly on route 4 and back mostly on route 44. It was a pretty drive and I stopped to take lots of pictures (they start here). Even more amazing was according to my scanguage I averaged over 45mpg(!) for the 200mile trip. Between the back roads, many stops and long trip the whole drive took me from 2pm to 8:30pm.
Tomorrow after work I get to do a thrash-fest to get Emily ready for autocrossing Sunday, and get myself ready for my cousin's wedding Saturday.
