Weddings and Autocrossing
Jun. 9th, 2008 07:12 pmSaturday was my Cousin's wedding. It was a brutally hot day, but fortunately Box's AC was up to the task. We even got to RI early enough to do some shopping at Salvation Army beforehand (I in a suit and my sweetie in a nice shirt & skirt, talk about out of place). Wedding was nice if a bit scarily traditionalist Catholic[1]. After the reception we went *back* to Salvation Army to find a lighter weight skirt for sweetie (did I mention the hot weather? there was a lot of it). Reception was nice enough, sweetie got to meet my awesome sister. I was a bit bored because I am never any good at receptions. Around 9:20 we drove back to CT, getting in around 11:20.
7:30am found us awake again. We got dressed and I headed out to finish prepping Emily for Autocrossing and load all my tools/jack/stands/shade tent/chairs/cooler in my sweetie's car to go out Autocrossing. My friend Velvet also came along, the plan was for him and I to trade off driving Emily & Box while my sweetie served as crew & moral support. Upon arrival though we were told that xBs weren't allowed to run, so we ended up both driving Emily.
We both go one run in each before a front hub broke during Velvet's run, but it was a blast. And despite only one run each, the sweltering heat, breaking my car and a wicked sunburn it was well worth it and I want to do it again some time.

Right now Emily is in the garage, after being towed home. I have already talked to the company that makes the hubs, and they are sending me a new set of hubs of an updated & stronger design.
The other amusing part is Velvet was going to a family party after autocrossing, so I offered to loan him box so he'd be able to rive a car with A/C rather than riding his scooter. This led to me joking that "Velvet broke one of my cars, so I loaned him the other one..."
Fun weekend, but utterly exhausting and I'm going to be recovering from the heat, sunburn and exhaustion for a while. But next Saturday is Mad Scientist's Union so that should be awesome.
[1]"producing Children" mentioned twice, "fidelity/forsaking all others" mentioned umpteen times mostly about the bride, only bride got a ring. Also it had all the other mass bits, so it was more like a regular Catholic mass where a wedding broke out.
