Yesterday was the first trip with my sweetie & I to the gym. I'd been unhappy about my sedentary work life lately, and that combined with my doctor's warnings about my blood pressure & cholesterol meant I needed to make some changes. I've been working on my diet, but that wasn't going to be enough. After a few false starts of planning to walk or bike more and not getting anywhere we decided joining a gym would give us a bit more structure to our workouts.
Yesterday we both took it a little easy, since I haven't formally exercised in who knows how long ( I used to work mainly blue-collar jobs, and got my exercise there), and she hasn't been to the gym in a few years. We did a 1/2hr on the weight machines, followed by 20min on the treadmill. A fairly lightweight workout, but a good starting point. I was glad to find I was not winded or excessively sore afterwords, and today I feel fine. That means I'm going to have to push myself harder on Thursday.
I'm not trying for being a specimin of perfect health with rock hard muscles. But I want to significantly improve my endurance & energy levels, while getting rid of the bit of pudge that has developed around my middle in the last few years.
Hopefully I can stick to this, and I have an incentive as I'm paying for the next year of membership whether I go or not.
