"So I submitted a claim to the guy who hit
The Cat on Thursday the 11th. They promised me a call within 24-48 hours. On Monday (the 15th) I called them and found that that claim had been canceled and a new one with a new claim number had been created and transferred to a different claims adjuster. So I finally got to speak with that claims adjuster who said she had talked to me on the 11th and discussed the claim with me. This was obviously a sign that she was smoking some sort of grape flavored crack as I had submitted the claim after the time when the claims adjusters leave for the day. So she promised me that a field appraiser would call me the next day (tuesday). So Dispite my having given her two work numbers in addition to my home number she calls at 2:30pm
to the home number and only the home number! I finally return the call at 8:30am on Wednesday with detailed listings of where I will and will not be numbers wise that day. She calls me back at work around 11am, and begins to blather about needing to make an appointment for a field appriser to look at The Cat. I mention that I already had an appraisal done by a garage and does that make a difference? She asks what garage and it turns out that that garage is on their 'Preferred repair facilities list' or some such and they can just use that place's estimate rather than sending out an appraiser. Of course I gave the ins co all the info about the estimate including the total of it, what garage and all the contact info for the garage back on the 11th!
Feh.
I knew dealing with the insurance company wasn't going to be fun, but this seems annoyingly excessively unfun. This isn't quite as bad as when I hit the deer with the Crown Vic and the claims adjuster got fired in the middle of it all causing them to take over two months to process a claim that they said the first day was definitely something they would pay out on. But this is getting up there in annoyance factor.
So now I get to wait for them to respond once they get a copy of the repair costs from the garage. I have a feeling that the next step is going to be the ins company making me an offer well below the estimate and getting to have the fun of dickering from there.
I've sort of decided that if they offer me at least $900 (3/4 of the $1194 estimate) I'll prolly take it with minimum dickering, but if they decide to be insulting and offer me less than half the estimate I'm going to be a dick and demand the whole thing."
