Impulse buy...
Aug. 6th, 2004 04:09 pm"So I went to Staples today for pens, and ended up buying a computer.
This isn't quite as insane as it sounds, as I have been in the market for a new machine (Minerva is nearly five years old).
And Staples did somevery nice things for the computer buying experience, thy made the machines configureable, and eliminated the salesppl.
You can sit down at a computer, and check out all their machines, then once you have found one you like you have the option of adding and removing features to optimize it to what you need/what[1]. Then you imput your shipping address, and print off a form. Take that form to the cashier and pay and they ship you your computer in a week or two.
So I'll be getting my new machine, and transferring over my burner, and my 128meg video card as well as *tons* of files. I'm undecided on whether to leave winXP on it or upgrade to win2000, I guess that can wait til I decide if I like winXP or not.
I'm going to have to come up with a name for her, and I think after Holmes III, Anthene and Minerva I'm actually out of Robert Heinlein computers to name my machines after."
[1] I opted for a simple 48x CD-ROM drive as I have a burner already (-$120), opted for a 2.8GIG processor over a 2.53GIG (+$30), and doubled my harddrive to 160GIG (+$5). I was going to go for an optical wireless mouse but determined I could buy one seperate for less than the addon would cost.
