I AM APATHY MAN!

...or I would be, if I could be bothered.

EDIT: ok not really. I'm more "Too Many Options and No Attention Span Man". I have tons of things I need/want to do. But I can't decide which one to do because there are so many. And worse, most of said projects aren't something I could complete today, and I want a sense of accomplishment.

(I meant to write this Tuesday, but got home late and forgot)

For the last couple months I've been going to a real barber again to get my hair cut. It started because I needed it cut before leaving for Lunacon, and it just became habit. And I knew I'd found a cool barber when on the first visit his Harley was parked in the shop for winter storage.

And I've found having a good barber to go to is a surprisingly enjoyable thing. He is engaging, clearly cares a lot about what he does and does a fantastic job. He even does a straight-razor trim on the back of my neck and around my ears[1]. Heck if I had the time he could to a full straight-razor shave as well (and one of these days I'm going to make the time).

Plus even if I'm not any good at joining it, there is something comfortable about going to a place where everyone is joking and talking back and forth. A bit of blue-collar camaraderie that I just don't encounter that often. Heck last time I was there, an old friend of the family that I haven't seen in several years was just getting done his haircut, and we caught up for a bit.

I guess comfort is wherever you find it.

[1] After the first haircut I was telling some people about this and all the guys were impressed, one of the women asked what the big deal was an a guy replied with "It's like a pedicure for guys. Except it involves a big piece of sharpened steel, so you feel all manly."

[Poll #1000914]

I posted a bit back about having a weekend at my family's cottage. Now I'm trying to find out what would be best for people. The weekends are listed as Fri-Sun as that's when I'll be there (possibly taking Friday off work). People would be welcome for any part of the weekend from whenever I show up on Friday through late afternoon on Sunday.

As for who is invited, if you are on my friends list you are *absolutely* invited. And if you're reading this and I've met you in person consider yourself invited. Otherwise please get in touch with me, you're almost certainly invited, but I want to know who you are first. Cuz I've heard the internets are full of stalkers and ax murders.

Stuff to do/stuff we have there:

  • Lake has a swimming area
  • We have two kayaks, one canoe and a tiny sailboat
  • Lake allows fishing, and has lots of tiny islands and snags to explore, including one large enough to wander around on.
  • Far side of the lake is a state park, which contains the ruins of a summer camp.
  • The lawn is big enough and we have the gear for volleyball or badminton.
  • Big porch for hanging out
  • Gas grill for cooking (also electric stove)
  • Firebowl for outside fires, fireplace for inside fires.

Some logistical thingies so people are aware in advance:

  • Limited inside crash space, none of it private.
  • Plenty of lawn space for tents, I can provide a few tents/sleeping bags.
  • Down a mile+ of unpaved road.
  • No internet, limited cell signal (very carrier dependent).
  • Landline phone, no long distance.
  • Tap water has a high sulfur content, doesn't bother me, does bother some people.
  • Nearest buses would be Norwich (1/2 hr away by car) or the Foxwoods/Mohegan casinos (closer, but still requiring a pickup by car)
