Ultra Cool thing I nearly forgot to post
Sep. 19th, 2007 05:37 pmMy sister recently got engaged, but isn't getting married until next spring. She called me on Sunday because she'd been thinking about the wedding. She wants me to be a part of it, but not to just be (as she put it) "Another groomsman who just stands there." So she wants me to be the officiant and actually marry them.
My sister wants me to the person who presides over her marriage. How cool is that?
We have no idea of the logistics of how that works, fortunately we have a long time to figure it out.
I never thought of being a JP, but if I'm going to officially become one to marry my sister, I figure I might as well put myself on the public list of them. Could be fun. Especially if CT has one for JPs willing to do civil unions the way MA has one for JPs willing to do gay marriages.
EDIT: Becoming a JP is very complicated in CT, and there are a limited number of them allowed at any one time (generally chosen by popular vote). Currently have an email in to the town clerk of the town the ceremony will most likely happen at asking if being a Universal Life Church Minister is sufficient credentials to perform a legal wedding.
