From here, seen on another friend's journal.

I fully agree with the following statement, and do fully make the following pledge myself.

So, here's the deal. I am making a pledge, which I fully intend to keep. If you need Plan B contraception, and you contact me, I will go to my local pharmacy and get it for you. Your parents don't have to know.

The CWFA will likely lobby Congress for a bill that will make my activities illegal, but I do not give a rat's ass for what the CWFA thinks of me.

This is an act of civil disobedience.

This is not a woman's right issue alone. This is a people's rights issue.

I'm trying to decide if I'm with you or not. It's an age of majority issue now. 18 is currently our de facto rule for when somebody has the right to make decisions about their own lives without the input of their parent/guardian, barring specific cases where a minor might not be a dependent. I haven't decided how I feel about that, although I'm leaning against...if I get past that, I'll be very strongly with you guys.

That said, I think you guys need a web presence. A way that somebody can get in contact with somebody relatively local to get the contraceptive. I'm trying to figure out how to make that interaction safe, though...there's legitimate room for concern that people might abuse such a system to try to meet and take advantage of impressionable young women. I think this bears further thought as well...

My feeling is that the issue with under-18 girls who need it is that they may *not* be able to tell a parent. The parent might violently object, or get violent at the situation, or be the *cause*. And there is the issue of a kid trying to get a prescrition w/o their parents involved.

i now have a prescription in my wallet, good for i think a year, for plan b. i'm undecided on whether or how i'd use it in such a case - mostly because my main experience with people who've needed it was ex-co-workers who repeatedly refused to use condoms or any sort of birth control (preferring, apparently, to use abortion pills over and over). i'm uncertain of whether i'm more inclined to let them suffer [an] abortion[s] for their willful stupidity (unkind, i know, and even worse if they also decide to just have the kid), or, in the hopes of not bringing more unwanted children into the world, giving it out over and over.

mind, if anyone i actually know nowadays were to need it, i wouldn't even think about it, but that's the sort of thing that makes me hesitate.
