more car geeking
Apr. 11th, 2001 06:26 pm"Well, yesterday I managed to get the second coat of paint on the fender. This means that all the fender, bumper, and mirror need is to be polished out and they will be done & ready to be installed.
I wasn't so lucky with the hood though, When trying to put the first coat on the top of the hood it started fisheyeing (paint not sticking to a spot on the old paint and pulling away leaving a little circle of old paint exposed that looks like a fish eye), and there was a lot of dust particles. Fortunately I was smart enough to stop trying to paint the hood about a 1/4 through, rather than try and 'fix it' right then and there and screw it up worse. Now I have to wait for the that paint ot dry though before I can sand it down & try again.
The CAUTION WEIRD LOAD back bumper has been repainted and is bright screeming yellow, just like I wanted it to be.
I also managed to find a new bicycle bell for the side mirror yesterday. I had bought the original one at Yankee Candle in '98 for around $4. Well I went back there to get another and found they wanted $8 for the same bell. Yeah. Right.
Went to Faces in Northampton, and they had that bell for $3.99, much better.
While I was installing it (parked on the street in NoHo) several people stopped to read The Cat, one guy commented 'Well they don't have VW Buses anymore, so now they're using Tauruses.' which amused me greatly.
Today I caught up on email, then deleted & reinstalled my blert.net account to fix some problems (it worked too thank ghods). Also scrubbed all the white paint splatters from sanding [C]'s hood off my boots, and once they dry I'm going to give them a long overdue coat of black polish.
Tomorrow [C] is supposed to come by so we can do more trip planning for Houston, and she's bringing the polishes I need to get the parts ready to install."
