A phone call I received today.
Dec. 14th, 2009 01:54 pm*phone rings*
Me: Hello?
Girl with mystery accent & terrible diction: Hello can I speak with [my legal name]?
Me: This is him. *eager because I'd just applied for a job an hour earlier and was hoping this was a callback*
GWMA&TD: Hello I'm [name] with *unintelligible*, we received your resume on careerbuilder and wanted to do a brief interview.
Me: Ok.
GWMA&TD: Do you have time right now.
Me: Certainly. I'm sorry what company did you say you were with?
GWMA&TD: American Income Life.
Me: I don't recall sending my resume to a company called that, did you find it searching or was it sent to you?
GWMA&TD: Oh, we found it in a search for potential candidates.
Me: Ah, I see.
GWMA&TD: Are you currently employed?
Me: No, I was laid off in late November. (Thinking "Did I forget to update that on my resume there?")
GWMA&TD: What was your last position?
Me: I did [last job title]. (Thinking "Aren't you the one with my resume in front of them?")
GWMA&TD: Something barely intelligible but sounding like a question*
Me: Yeah, sure. *while googling American Income*
GWMA&TD: Would you be interested in a position...
Me: *cutting her off* I'm sorry, your company comes up on scam.com, goodbye.
*hangs up phone*
After hanging up on her I did more research on American Income Life, turns out they are a company that pretty much combines a MLM scheme with commission-only insurance sales. So the worst of both worlds. Feh on them and their BS.
